Kenya: Budalangi Floods Alert

The government has issued a flood warning in Budalangi following the rising water levels of River Nzoia. Area DC Khalif Abdi Ali has ordered people who live in floods-prone areas to vacate to higher areas to escape the impending floods.

In press statement, the DC said the government in collaboration with Red Cross is ready to deal with floods menace. Ali said people who reside in risky areas and those with livestock should be prepared to vacate instead of waiting for till the floods hit them.

The DC has also asked officials of Magombe Rice mill and farmers who have stocked foodstuffs to relocate them to safer areas to avoid destruction.

Water levels have risen to 5.57metres with fears that the levels could rise as days go by. Ali issued the alert after meeting the district disaster management committee.
