Eritrea: Agordat Sub-Zone - Call Made for Enhancement of Community Awareness Regarding Diabetes

Agordat — Health professionals in Agordat sub-zone have called for integrated efforts as regards raising community awareness on diabetes. It made the call at a seminar conducted in Agordat city, in which a number of diabetics from the sub-zones of Agordat, Dige, Forto-Sawa, Mensura and Logo-Anseba took part.

Dr. Ogbit Solomon, Medical Director Representative at the hospital in Agordat, advised citizens to conduct regular medical checkup, and the diabetics to follow up their health status frequently.

Mr. Hidru Masia, head of the National Association of the Diabetics branch in Gash-Barka region, explained that the disease causes serious socio-economic impact, and that the Association is exerting endeavors with a view to combating it in collaboration with stakeholders. Likewise, Dr. Le'ul Banteyirga, head of the Health Ministry's branch in the region called on diabetics to practice judicious measures as regards nutrition and use of medicines.

Furthermore, the seminar dealt with ways and means of reducing instances of diabetes, and managing its secondary effects.
