Nigeria: Abuja Catholic Archdiocese to Celebrate Onaiyekan Sunday

The Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja will hold a Thanksgiving Mass and Reception Sunday to celebrate the elevation of John Cardinal Onaiyekan to the status of a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

A statement from the church yesterday by the spokesman, Rev. Fr. Tom Asen, said the Sunday event would coincide with his 30th anniversary as a Bishop of the Catholic Church.

The statement said: "These dual events are very important in the life of our dear John Cardinal Onaiyekan. Secondly, they are very important for the Church in Nigeria, Africa and indeed the Universal Church at large."

The Holy Mass is slated for Our Lady Queen of Nigeria, Pro-Cathedral in Garki, Abuja.
