Kenya: Wildlife Ranger Injured By Poachers

A Kenya Wildlife Service officer has been airlifted to Nairobi from Nyeri for specialised treatment after he was shot and injured by poachers.

The constable was in a contingent of rangers pursuing poachers at the expansive Solio Wildlife Sanctuary ranch when he was shot on the left leg by suspected poachers.

Aberdare National Park senior warden Felix Mwangangi said the officers were combing the ranch for poachers on the eve of the New Year. The poachers opened fire injuring the officer.

He was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in Mweiga Town. The warder was transferred to Outspan hospital but was later airlifted in a KWS plane to a hospital in Nairobi.
