Sudan: 'Abu Tira' Beat, Loot Three Citizens in Central Darfur

Atallah — Central Reserve Forces (known as Abu Tira) beat and looted three citizens in the Atallah area, Central Darfur, on Wednesday, 2 January, sources told Radio Dabanga.

The victims, from Kabom city in South Darfur, were reportedly on their way to the Mukjar market when the attack occurred.

One of them told Radio Dabanga the perpetrators stole a total of six thousand Sudanese pounds in addition to stripping the men from all of their belongings.

He also said the Abu Tira forces were driving Land Cruisers mounted with ammunition and threatened to kill the three victims, after firing shots in the air to intimidate them.

Eye-witnesses appealed to the governments of Central and South Darfur to protect them against Abu Tira forces and pro-government militiamen.

They claim these groups are stationed on nearby roads, looting citizens at gunpoint.
