South Africa: SADESMO Concerned By the Looming Increase in University Education Costs

press release

The South African Democratic Students Movement (SADESMO) is concerned by the looming increase in the cost of tertiary education. SADESMO has on numerous occasions pleaded with the Department of Higher Education and Training to make sure that education is affordable for all South Africans.

It is quite sad that tertiary education in South Africa is dictated to by market forces of demand and supply.

SADESMO believes that it is the right of every qualified and willing scholar to receive a quality university education at an affordable cost. Government should play the important role of ensuring that all South Africans, no matter their demographic, can get a quality, affordable university education if they are willing and qualify to do so.

In the long run students will ultimately repay government's faith in them through the role they ultimately play in the South African Economy.
