Angola: President Regrets Human Loss in Vigil Tragedy

Luanda — The Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, Thursday in Luanda expressed deep dismay over untimely and irreparable loss of human lives on December 31, 2012, at "Cidadela" Sports stadium in Luanda, ahead of the vigil dubbed "the Day of the End" sponsored by the Universal Church of God's Kingdom.

In his press note released by the Civil Office of the Presidency of Republic dated January 1 and delivered to Angop Thursday, José Eduardo dos Santos addressed to all bereaved families deepest condolences.

In the document, the Head of State urged the concerned authorities and the organizers of such events to step up security measures and create conditions so that such dramatic and painful events never happen again."

Following the tragedy, the forces of the National Police and Fire-Fighter and National Institute of Medical Emergencies (INEMA) moved 114 people to the hospitals of Américo Boavida, Josina Machel, Lucrecia Paim and Prenda, where 13 people died, including three children.
