Kenya: National Women's Basketball Team Kick Off Training Today

THE national women's team start training today ahead of the Africa Nations Cup (ANC) Zone Five show from January 21-29 in Dar- es-Salaam, Tanzania. Coach Ronny Owino, who will handle the team wants the 18 players named in the provisional list last month to report at the Nyayo Stadium gymnasium at 2pm.

The event will bring together teams from Uganda, Eritrea, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia and host Tanzania. The winner will qualify for Final tour slated for DR Congo in September. Kenya men and women's team will face tight opposition but Owino is confident the ladies will pull through to the final. The men's team is being coached by Francis "Ofisa" Ngunjiri and are yet to release their training programme. "We will have only 13 trainings sessions. The players will need to keep fit and keep time for us to be able to do all that we need to do within the short period." Said Owino who handled the side to fourth place in 1997 Africa Nations Cup and also 2007 All Africa Games. The women's tram is ranked 73rd in the world according to International Basketball Federation (FIBA) ranking.
