Uganda: Politican Warns of Looming Turmoil

The former party president Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Dr Kizza Besigye warns that the current political faith by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party is likely to throw the country into political turmoil.

Besigye points out the manner in which government handled the death of the Butaleja woman MP Cerinah Nebanda noting that this should be awake up call to NRM legislators to stop what he referred to as sycophancy and audit the current leadership.

He says the arrests of MPs Chris Baryomunsi and Muhammad Nsereko is evidence that government is spent on silencing dissenting voices even in their own party.

He was appearing before Voice of America Straight Africa show reviewing the Africa's report card 2012.

Dr Besigye also accredited the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga for asserting herself to defend the institution of the parliament from the influence of the executive, however, Besigye expresses concern that the speaker is influenced by leading MPs whom he says have been inherently compromised.
