It was a special end of the year for Public Health and Sanitation minister Beth Mugo as she got an Honorary Doctor of Humanity Degree from the United College and Seminary International, USA. She received the award at Kemri Institute on Mbagathi Way in Nairobi.
The minister's career spans across the education, mass communication, entrepreneurship and political sectors. Her citation recognised her work as a strong advocate of democratic governance, human rights and fundamental values in Kenya.
Other leaders who have received this honour from the college include former presidents Olesegun Obasanjo (Nigeria), Joachim Chisano (Mozambique), Pierre Nkrunziza (Burundi) and Kenyan Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and Speaker Kenneth Marende.
It was a happy occasion for the minister who was joined by family and friends including daughter Murugi Mugo. Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor Olive Mugendi, Christina Pratt and Anne Wambaa attended the event.
