Kenya: Poachers Kill Three Rhinos

Three rhinos have been killed and their horns hacked off in two separate incidents in Nanyuki over the last few days. One female black rhino was killed at the Ol Jogi Ranch on Monday. She left behind a calf which is reportedly too young to survive on its own.

In the other incident, a white rhino and her calf were killed in Solio Ranch on the morning of New Year's Day. "Gunshots were heard at about 2am which Kenya Wildlife Service rangers responded to. A confrontation between the rangers and the poachers ensued." confirmed Aggrey Maumo, the KWS assistant director in charge of the Mt Kenya region.
