Kenya: Meru Farmers Net Sh200 Million

Farmers under the Forest Plantations Establishment and Livelihoods Scheme in Meru Central zone earned Sh198 million last year.

Meru forest service director Evans Maneno said the earnings have uplifted the farmers' livelihoods and is helping them protect the forests.

"In Ontulili forest station, farmers earned Sh96 million, Mucheene farmers earned Sh90 million and those in Meru forest station got Sh12 million from the sale of potatoes, maize and beans," said Maneno.
