Tanzania: Mafunzo Beat JKU in Mapinduzi Netball Clash

Zanzibar — MAFUNZO netball side defeated JKU 45-40 in a hotly contested encounter at the Gymkhana courts here. The game well officiated by umpires Hadia Khamis and Rahima Bakari started as a seesaw affair as both sides went out for quick goals.

Mafunzo's latest victory was a milestone for them because they managed to break a losing jinx against JKU, who are also their bitter archrivals. Both teams showed classic skills from the word go but the winners were much into the limelight.

Mafunzo looked determined to win the game as they played a well coordinated game with defenders being extra carefully and intercepting most of JKU passes.JKU tried to put up an impressive run but their attempts were thwarted, while Mafunzo's wing, attacker and shooter were a no nonsense characters.

Mafunzo capitalized on the experience of well drilled shooters of Kazija Salum and Erene Mollel who were in good form yesterday, while JKU and national team goal shooter Pili Peter tried to score her best but the range was not on her side. The game was preceded by an encounter that pitted Polisi Morogoro and Songea in which Polisi won by 75-20.
