Tanzania: Former Kagera's Lweru Eagles Star Is No More

Bukoba — FORMER striker with Kagera Regional soccer team - Lweru Eagles, Erasmus "Mataifa" Kakolaki, is no more. He died on Thursday and was laid to rest at his home village, Buganguzi, in Muleba District.

Kakolaki will be remembered by many for his talent. After completing his form four at Kishoju Secondary School in Muleba, he joined Halmashauri Muleba FC for a brief spell before joining Balimi FC in mid 1980s.

While at Balimi FC, Mataifa also featured for the regional soccer team, Lweru Eagles where he played with former national team Taifa Stars players, Leopold "Tasso" Mukebezi, Edwin Kilyanga, Salum Mawingu and the late Mapalala, to mention just a few.

Later, he joined Tanga's African Sports where he played for two seasons and later joined Malindi of Zanzibar. After retirement from active soccer, Kakolaki (43) became a coach, a career he held until his death. He is survived by a widow and three children.
