For Mama Maria Kathambi M'Arimbi, the celebration of her 100 years was a sure sign of God's blessing. On December 29, she marked her centennial surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren who showered her with gifts of love, care and kindness.
Even at her advanced age, Mama Maria only eats the food she cooks, cleans her house, farms and does the laundry.
While marking the special day, Mama Maria lit her birthday candle in a ceremony attended by Nakuru deputy police boss Japheth Mwirichia, family, relatives and friends at her home in Kigwi village, North Imenti Constituency.
During the ceremony known as Kiatho in Meru community, Mama Maria was celebrated as a tough disciplinarian, hardworking, prayerful, jovial and loving grandma. Fr Mwenda Nkabune led the thanksgiving.
Guests were treated to delicious fermented porridge, Mukimo, pilau among other delicacies.
