POLICE have arrested an immigration officer suspected to have defiled a nine year-old girl in Mtwapa, Kilifi County. Kwale deputy police boss, Ben Changula, said the suspect was arrested on turning himself to the officers.

"The suspect is in custody we are conducting investigation before arraigning him in court to stand trial over defilement charges," said Changula.

Police said investigations had revealed that the minor was defiled at the suspect's house. Her grandmother, Hadija Somobwana, said the girl was repeatedly defiled at Siku Njema estate by the suspect, adding that doctors had confirmed that the victim had been infected with the killer HIV virus.

The man allegedly lured the minor into his house where he defiled and thereafter gave her cash and sweets. The girl was treated at a private clinic in Mtwapa and later transferred to Coast Provincial General Hospital for further examination.
