Kenya: Aids Carers in Regional Forum

The young people who care Aids patients in East Africa are meeting in Kiambu for a regional forum. The event's coordinator, Ernest Mwangi, said the forum gives orphaned children who take care of their siblings a platform to discuss the challenges facing them.

"There are thousands of young carers who keep families together by forfeiting their own education, health and future. The demands and responsibilities of caring for Aids patients are overwhelming. The pressures of isolation, stigmatisation, not being understood and not having anyone to hear are real."
