The Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqquattu Ahmed Rufai, has unceasing concentration of students on social network is the bane of increasing poor performance of students.
The minister, represented by the director, Department of Tertiary Education, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed, said this during the launch of a book '21 Ways to fail Diploma Well', at the weekend in Abuja.
She said that rather than concentrate on their studies, students have become fixated with social networks and a lot of junk available on the web.
In a chat with LEADERSHIP, the author of the book, Folashade Olanipekun, said she wanted to use the book to expose the pitfalls of diploma students, and how to avoid them.
She said, "This book tried to showcase the pitfalls that cause people to fail so that they will know the mistakes and abstain from them. As a diploma student, I have gone down that road and I know the mistakes some of our friends have made; so we're trying to showcase such mistakes so that the upcoming generation will be educated on these mistakes and avoid them."
She stated that even though the book was targeted at diploma students, it is also recommended to students all over the country.
Olanipekun is a final year student of Law at the University of Lagos and is the author of two other inspirational books, 'Appreciating Oneself' and '5 Determinants of Prime Honour'.
