Angola: Over 800,000 Km2 of Land Cleared of Landmines in Cunene

Ondjiva — An area of 890,000 square kilometres was demined, throughout the year 2012, by a brigade with the command of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), in southern Cunene province, its commander, Benjamim Angelo, disclosed.

The commander said that during the operation a total of 10,162 explosive devices were unearthed and destroyed, among them grenades and ammunitions.

The demining works took place in Cuvelai district and in some inner areas of the districts of Kwanhama and Namacunde, in light of the process to guarantee the free circulation of people and goods.
