Nigeria: 2013 Will Be Entertainment Galore for My Fans - Waconzy

Anyanwu Obinna Kelvin, a.k.a Waconzy, is no longer new in the Nigerian music industry. The Managing Director and chief executive officer of Dv8 MEDIA in this interview with ANTHONY ADA ABRAHAM, said his fans should brace up for 2013.

His song ' I celebrate' was a banger in clubs and other occasions which saw him remixing the song for about three times. When asked why his songs seem to have the same threads running through them; he said his songs are products of his environment.

He said: 'To a reasonable extent, I would say that I am a product of my environment and I sing mainly about events around me. I use my music to express myself; so pardon me if I always express myself in that manner. Also, I will like to state here that I am not monotonous. I have different styles of expressing myself musically, even if my music hovers around my true life story, he explained urging his fans to know that it is his trademark.

'Whenever you get a Waconzy CD or listen to a Waconzy song, you should expect nothing short of the truth. Let me use this medium to announce to my fans that they should expect something better from my album: 'Money Back Guarantee.'

The songs celebration was really appreciated by fans and later it was about marriage; how soon should we expect Waco as he is fondly called to walk down the aisle? He smiled saying its a great thing to be married but at the right time things would be done rightly.

'It won't be a bad idea to get married now. Every mature man's dream is to get a wife and mine is no exception. But like you know, everything is in God's hand.

Though lots of people have always compared the sons of Port Harcourt -Waconzy, Timaya and Duncan Mighty as doing same thing. The belief is that they are all doing very well in their various beats'. When asked who would he say is the most sought after? This was his response.

'We are all doing our thing and at the same time chasing our dreams. There is enough room for all birds to fly and as brothers we don't have any interest in competition. We only try our best to dish-out good music and represent where we come from.

There was a rumour that his relationship with Timaya was sour and some think the relationship between them is also strained and that is why he hadn't recorded any song with him. But the artiste refuted the claim calling it a move by some elements to tarnish the cordial relationship that had existed between them.

'It is not true. I did a song titled 'The Journey' with him. We are on good terms and we talk on phone very often. We 'ping' each other every day. So, I don't know where that story emanated from.'

On how he rated the lyrical content of our artistes today especially with the combination of African American to Nigeria entertainment, he simply said there was no professional test that is been conducted before one is qualified as an artiste.

' In this industry, there is no professional exam that must be written to qualify you as a musician, so don't be surprised to hear anything. There are a lot of professionals and some up-comers. I reckon that it is the duty of the A-list artistes to help educate the upcoming ones on good quality music and lyrics. Well, I am sure things would get better as the industry grows.' He emphasized.

The young artiste is not only about singing but also has a big ambition to open his own record label. In a chat, Waconzy said it was on the pipeline. How far has he gone since our last conversation? this was what he had to said:

'Dv8 MEDIA is now in full swing with four offices nationwide and staff strength of nine. It has five university graduates on pay roll. I will like to say that my hard work is finally paying off. By the grace of God, in the next few years, Dv8 MEDIA would be a top rated African entertainment company.'

The artiste who said he is fun hanging out with also talked about his life and his relationship even though it took him time to really say something about his relationship due to rumour.

'I am a fun loving and easy going dude. I fear and respect God. I am a Christian and the third child in extended family, and I'm aspiring to be a world shaker. I am the MD/CEO of Dv8 MEDIA. I obtained a Degree in Project Management from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri in Imo State. I live in Port Harcourt and spend most time in Lagos.

About my relationship, I choose to keep it personal.' He said without mincing word. Artistes are so evasive when it comes to that aspect of their life.

As to how would he rate his progression as an upcoming artiste to his progression in the music industry so far, he humbly gave all credit to his numerous fans who have been very supportive, the media and others for standing by him through all this time.

'First, I will like to say a big thank you to you for always supporting your super duper brother. Since then, it has been like a flight on a jet plane. My career has blossomed. Also, I want to say a big thank you to my fans, supporters and my creator.'

He also wished everyone a prosperous new year promising that better things is ahead especially good music and delivery.
