Tunisia: Manouba Dean Trial Resumes

A Tunisian court on Thursday (January 3rd) postponed the trial of Manouba University dean Habib Kazdaghli until January 17th, TAP reported. Kazdhagli is accused of assaulting a student wearing the niqab.

"I am confident that justice will be done for the university," AFP quoted Kazdoghli as saying as he emerged from the courtroom."We are defending institutions and the rule of law," he told a crowd of supporters, including human rights activists and opposition politicians.

Kazdoghli is accused of committing an "act of violence committed by a public employee while performing his duties", a crime that carries a possible five-year jail term.
