Nigeria: NSC to Recall Federation Secretaries

The Honorable Minister of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi has directed Secretaries of the Sporting Federations to prepare their handover notes ahead of their redeployment to the Commission.

This is in line with the Honorable Minister's commitment to reform the Federation and reposition them for greater efficiency.

At the moment, all Sporting Federations are deployed from the NSC and this has affected the internal cohesion of the Federations, which has been used as excuse by some Federations for non-performance in the past when they complained of interference.

As part of this reform, the Federations will now have the power to appoint their own Secretaries, thereby granting them greater autonomy.

However, the NSC will set the guidelines for the appointment of Secretaries. Similarly, the NSC is developing eligibility guidelines that will guide elections and appointments into the Boards of these Federations.
