Ilorin — The Kwara State governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the 2011 election, Dele Belgore (SAN), has kicked against workers' retrenchment.
Belgore's remark was in reaction to an earlier statement of the state government and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where they accused him of advocating workers' lay off by his criticism of the 2013 budget where recurrent, expenditure pegged at N51billion exceeded the capital budget of N42billion.
He said it was the PDP government "that is retrenching workers in a wicked and dubious way by orchestrating the sack of LG workers without giving any official confirmation."
Belgore, who spoke through his spokesman, Rafiu Ajakaye, accused Governor, Abdulfattah Ahmed of deceit.
The state governor has through his spokesman, Wahab Oba, said it has no short or long term plan to retrench the workers, but the government would continually improve their working conditions.
