South Africa: Bafana At Full Strength for Norway

Bafana Bafana are at full strength ahead of their friendly international against Norway in Cape Town on Tuesday after UK-based midfielder Dean Furman joined the squad on Sunday.

The addition of the midfielder, who helped Oldam Athletic to a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest in the third round of England's FA Cup on Saturday, completed coach Gordon Igesund's 23-man squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

The players will have a final training session before Tuesday's clash late on Monday morning, when they are expected to be visited by Sport and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula.

Met with fans

Over the weekend, apart from training, Bafana took time off to meet fans at the Absa Towers branch in Cape Town, where they signed autographs, posed for photographs and handed out match tickets.

They also visited the Red Cross Children's Hospital, spending time with sick children in two wards.

The children had stickers with Bafana written on their foreheads in anticipation of the national team's arrival and most asked for autographs and posed for photographs with the players.

Donation

Together with Absa, the team donated R20 000 to the hospital.

"I want to thank all the guys for their generosity in collecting the money and also the sponsors Absa," said national captain Bongani Khumalo.

"This little gesture will go a long way in making a difference in the lives of some of these children. Thank you once again to everyone for showing a good heart.

"Having suffered the pain of having a sick mother in hospital, I know the difficulties that people here go through.

'Thank you"

"I also want to thank everyone for the support shown to Bafana since our arrival here," Khumalo said.

South Africa's friendly against Norway will be followed by another friendly against Algeria in Johannesburg on 12 January. A week later, the Africa Cup of Nations kicks off.

Bafana Bafana face Cape Verde in the opening match of the continental finals at the National Stadium in Johannesburg at 18:00. That match will be followed by another Group A clash, between Angola and Morocco, kicking off at 21:00.
