Zambia: Vubwi MP Appeals for Relief Food

VUBWI Member of Parliament (MP) Eustarckio Kazonga has appealed to the Government to start sending relief food to avert the looming hunger in the newly-created district.

Dr Kazonga, who toured some villages in Zozwe, said hunger was looming because of shortage of maize.

In December 2011, President Michael Sata declared Vubwi a district. The area was previously under Chadiza District.

The parliamentarian said many households had grown more cotton in the 2011/12 farming season.

He said maize in the area was not enough to take the residents to the next harvest season.

Dr Kazonga said the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) should visit the area and assess the hunger situation.

"Hunger is looming in the area because investors will have interest to set up their enterprises.
