The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany through its agency responsible for technical cooperation, GIZ, has donated to the Contractors' Classification, and Certification System Division at the Public Works Ministry two Ford Everest Pick Ups, 10 Kainuo Motor cycles, 10 Large Monitors, 10 Auto Cad Licenses (software) and assorted bridge inspection equipment.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Deputy Public Works Minister for Technical Services, Hon. Victor B. Smith, thanked GIZ for the donation. He promised that the equipment will be used for the intended purpose. Minister Smith recounted the numerous contributions made by GIZ in the transport and infrastructural sectors as well as a recent one week study tour afforded him in Germany. Mr. Smith also thanked GIZ for its immense contributions to the Senior Executive Service (SES), of which he was a proud beneficiary prior to assuming his current position.

He disclosed further that GIZ plans to provide salary support to employees of the Contractors' Classification and Certification System (CCCS) and train architects and engineers to use Auto Cad License, a new software on how to gather data and why, when, and the kind of maintenance a particular road requires.

According to Minister Smith, two GIZ experts are currently in the country, along with a London based Consultancy Firm, to work with the Road Maintenance Unit at Public Works Ministry to carry out hands-on inspection  and rehabilitation of roads in the country.

For his part, the Project Officer of GIZ, Mr. Alberdeen Gargli, revealed that his institution is working closely with the Ministries of Transport, Public Works, Association of Liberian Construction Contractors, and the Liberia Chamber of Commerce to implement transport and infrastructural projects in the country since 2008. He narrated further that GIZ has provided technical assistance for the formulation, development, as well as the approval of the National Transport Policy Master Document. He expressed the fervent hope that the equipment will be used for the intended purpose.

Earlier, the Assistant Public Works Minister for Administration, Hon. Andrew K. Kear, Sr., welcomed all of the stakeholders present during the ceremony and expressed gratitude to GIZ for its continuous support to the transport and infrastructural sectors.
