Odumase — Even before president-elect John Dramani Mahama appoints his team of ministers and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), residents and natives in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region are divided over who presides over the area.
Information pieced together by The Chronicle indicates that a cross section of residents want President Mahama to retain the sitting MCE, Isaac Tetteh Agbo, but others believe he is the worst thing that has ever happened to Manya Krobo, hence must be changed.
This came to light in a Christmas eve random interview conducted by The Chronicle in the area, on whether the area was ready for a new MCE or not.
Those in favor of the young MCE elaborated several developmental projects embarked on by Mr. Agbo, and asked that the President retain him to give him the opportunity to complete his projects.
They mentioned the construction of schools and health centres among other developments that in the history of the local government administration the area had not seen.
They also disclosed that since he had been in office for four years now, it is only proper to retain him for continuity.
But, the majority of the people thought enough is enough, since Isaac Tetteh Agbo is allegedly the worst MCE ever seen by the people of the area. They, therefore, want President Mahama to replace him.
Some NDC youth in the area indicated that the party suffered a near electoral defeat in the just-ended presidential and parliamentary elections, because of the attitude of Agbo Tetteh.
According to them, the DCE's relationship with the constituents was not cordial, and that if the situation was left unattended it would lead to dis-organisation in the party.
Those against the retention of the MCE, further accused him of masterminding the arrest of some party executives in the area for opposing his style of leadership.
This, according to them, was a betrayal of the trust and confidence the people reposed in him.
To them, their quest for a new MCE was for the good people of the Krobo land, and neither politically motivated, nor because of any ill feelings towards the young man.
Meanwhile, one name that has popped up for consideration as the next MCE for lower Manya Krobo is the former Presiding Member (PM) and two term Assembly Member for the Abanse Electoral Area, Mr. David Walter.
His alleged broad experience of the PM, and in-depth knowledge about the area, could effectively contribute to the development of the, area if appointed as the next MCE, his supporters claim.
Contacted for his comments, Agbo Tetteh said the appointment of MCE was the sole prerogative of the president, and not some residents. He was confident that the president would retain him based on his achievements.
