Kenya: Three Killed in Thika Smash-Up

Three people were yesterday killed when a matatu they were traveling in collided head-on with a lorry near Thika town. The accident occurred at Gatuanyaga, about 10 kilometers from Thika town, when the matatu rammed into the lorry that was ferrying sand.

Witnesses said the driver of the matatu, which was heading to Thika from Kilimambogo, lost control at a potholed section of the road.

Thika police boss Paul Leting said two people among them a woman died on the spot while the third one succumbed to his injuries at the Thika Level 5 Hospital. Three others are still undergoing treatment

Meanwhile, eight people were injured when a matatu they were traveling in crashed near Ruiru at the weekend. Police said the 11 am accident occurred when the driver swerved to avoid hitting a lorry on the Thika Superhighway.
