Angola: Civil Society Involved in Fight Against Aids

Luanda — The fight against HIV/AIDS will be won only with the involvement of civil society, because it is the real link between communities and institutions and between those in need and decision makers.

The affirmation is from the United Nations Organization for AIDS, expressed in a message read at the close of the workshop on Strategic Planning of Anaso, held from 11 to 15 this month, in Luanda.

Antonio Coelho, general secretary of Anaso recognised that there growth of NGOs in terms of quality, despite the great difficulties that cross, because today challenge is to sustainability, based on the implementation of income-generating projects.

He stressed the need to promote a public debate on how to access government funds for NGOs, since the issue of the public utility institution be understood by different public managers as a reason for not allocating funds.

Antonio Coelho called for a greater engagement, better coordination, and better distribution of existing funds, because only in this way can maintain current levels of prevalence rate, improve service delivery and reverse the course of the epidemic.
