Kenya: Statement By U.S. Embassy Charge d'Affaires

press release

On the Successful Completion of Voter Registration in Kenya:

I congratulate the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and applaud the Kenyan people for the successful completion of the largest and most ambitious voter registration drive in Kenya's history. Exercising their civic rights, over 14 million Kenyans registered to vote, more than in the 2010 constitutional referendum.

The registration of voters represents another step toward free, fair, and peaceful elections in March, 2013. This election is yet another opportunity, as with the vote on the constitution in 2010, for Kenya to demonstrate its commitment to democracy and inspire people around the world.
