The 2013 edition of the National County Sports Meet (NCSM) continued Sunday, January 6, 2012 with more thrilling results across at all four venues across the country. The four venues include: Harper, Sanniquellie, Robertsport and Kakata Cities, where the football and kickball versions of the tournament are currently ongoing.
In Harper, Maryland County, Grand Kru surprised Grand Gedeh with a 2-1 defeat, thanks to a William Galo's brace. The Grand Gedians started the action pack with great determination as she came close to scoring two early minutes goals.
But their tension lasted for only the opening eight minutes. The Grand Kru boys took over and dominated the entire first half in midfield.
With the continued pressure, Grand Kru midfield hero Edward Selebah came close to registering the first goal for his side, but Grand Gedeh was saved by the left goal post. Five minutes later, Grand Kru County made another attempt to goal with a wonder strike, but goalkeeper Garley Nyanow finger tipped the ball for a corner kick.
Grnad Gedeh remained under pressure and Grand Kru got the needed result with a goal from Captain William Galo on 23 minutes. The Grand Gedians nearly equalized on the 40th minute mark following a sluggish play by the Grand Kru defense.
Into the second period, the Grand Gedians County reconsolidated and came back strongly get on level pecking. They were in the end awarded a penalty after the ball touched on the hand of a Grand Kru defender. Jolly Jolly Carr made no mistake in converting the penalty to bring Grand Gedeh on level term.
With that equalizing goal, Grand Gedeh County gained more confidence of winning the game with total dominance of the midfield. However, Grand Kru boys were never deterred as they maintained the pressure of the Grand Gedians.
With the last 10 minutes to go, Grand Kru County again overcame the midfield and got the match winner on the 90th minute through the captain once more. Earlier in the kickball version, Grand Gedeh County took the day with a 15-11 home run. Grand Gedeh County scored 5, 0, 2, 6 and 2 points in her first, second, third, fourth and fifth round respectively, while Grand Kru County on the other hand, scored 2, 0, 5, 3 and 1 point in her first, second, third, fourth and fifth round of as respectively.
In Kakata, Margibi County, the County Meet football and kickball defending champions, Margibi County were beaten by Grand Bassa County in both disciplines in Group-II. The double defending champions were defeated 4-1 home runs in kickball and 1-0 in the soccer encounter.
Also in the same group, Rivercess County defeated Sinoe by 5-1 home runs in the kickball version, but fell 2-1 in football.
In Sanniquellie, Nimba County, it ended 0-0 between Nimba and Bong Counties in football in Group IV. However, Nimba County won the kickball game by 15-7 home runs.
And finally in Group I, Montserrado County beat host Grand Mount County 2-0 in football, but conceded a 12-6 home run defeat at the hands of the Cape Mountainians. In the group's other fixture, Gbarpolu County beat Bomi County by 2-1 in football and 14-8 home runs in kickball.
