Angola: Child Development Centre Was Cacuaco Municipality's 2012 Highlight

Luanda — The inauguration by the head of State Jose Eduardo dos Santos of the "Boa Espeança" Child Development Centre in Luanda's Cacuaco municipality, with a capacity for 1,822 children from six to 18 years of age, was the highlight for that area in the year 2012.

The facility comprises two buildings, being one the main and another under repair, to house the techno-professional training centre for children from the elementary up to higher education.

It covers an area of 55.6 square metres and includes 11 classrooms, 48 dormitories, a 244-seat hall, kitchen and canteen for 280, showroom, three leisure places, agricultural area, a chapel, library/reader's room, medical post, cyber cafe, bedrooms and houses for the board.

Located in the neighbourhood of Imbondeiro, municipal headquarters of Cacuaco, the Centre for Child Development Centre of Boa Esperança area was built in the light of the Constitution of the Republic of Angola, which states that "the State shall guarantee special protection to orphaned, disabled and abandoned children, somehow deprived of a normal family environment. "

Another major event was also the visit of the president of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, during which he inaugurated the Cacuaco Municipal Hospital, with a capacity for seventy beds.

Estimated at Usd 13.7 million, the hospital offers the services of paediatrics, ophthalmology, dentistry, endoscopy and maternity.

The municipal hospital has two operation wards, five laboratories, pharmacy, sterilisation services, equipment for producing oxygen and a morgue, refectory, kitchen, laundry, incinerator and four houses for doctors.

The inauguration of plants, the Coca-Cola Bottling soft drink factory with four filling lines, being one for 330 ml and two for 500ml canned drinks and one for 350 ml returnable bottles, working on a 416 manpower, was also a highlighted in the year in respect.

Another relevant undertaking was the Ngola beer brewery with a production capacity of 500,000 liters/year, and two filling lines, and returnable glass bottles of 330, 250 and 310 ml, employing 86 workers.

The list of highlights includes the construction and inauguration of two police stations near the "Farol das Lagostas", in "Uige" and "4 de Fevereiro" neghbourhoods, covered under the Government Public Investment Programme.

The repair of secondary and tertiary roads within the municipality, as well as the last stretch of the Boavista / Kifangondo highway, in Luanda, began receiving layers of asphalt, earthwork and rehabilitation of drainage ditches.

Ahead of ground levelling works, some businesses that existed on the site were demolished to facilitate the extension of the roads, the setting up of new drinking water and electricity distribution systems, including roads with three lane in both directions.

On the other hand, the trial of 117 people in August in connection with an unruly occupation of land reserve plots in Cacuaco municipality was also a major event in 2012 in the region.

The above mentioned people, 27 women and 90 men, were tried and sentenced to a fine and suspended sentence of three months after they were arrested red-handedly while illegally occupying houses and plots of land on the outskirts of Cacuaco nder construction.

The new Cacuaco city, whose works are being carried out by the "China Group" company, started in 2008 and is located in Sequele area, some 10 kilometers from the Highway, covering an area of 1,7 million square metres.

Another major event was the inauguration of the One-stop- Shop for Entrepreneur (BUE), with the aim of helping fight poverty in the framework of the project of the Executive of support for small business.

The BUE project is an opportunity for young people to achieve their small businesses, both in the formal and informal markets, with little activity, such as workshop, joinery, painting, plumbing and others.

The establishment comprises counters for tax management, Institute of statistics, central registry, Social Security Institute, Department of Commerce and the Institute of veterinary services.

With an area of about 335 square kilometers, the municipality of Cacuaco has opportunities for investments in construction, agro-farming and tourism.
