Gambia: Fisheries & Water Resources Minister Gives to NAYCONF

The minister of Fisheries and Water Resources has donated a brand new trophy to the organising committee of the ongoing National Youth Conference and Festival (NAYCONF) that is currently underway in the Central River Region's provincial town of Bansang.

Mass Axi Gye presented the trophy to the minister of Youth and Sports, Alieu Kebba Jammeh during a dinner hosted by the regional governor, Alh Ganyie Touray, in honour of Vice President Njie-Saidy and other dignitaries that graced the opening ceremony of the biennial event.

Minister Gye told the gathering that the donation is a tradition for his family, in that they contribute to all major events in the country."We see it fitting to donate this trophy to the National Organizing Committee of NAYCONF. They have to decide how to use the trophy," he said, while pledging their commitment to do more in future.

The Youth and Sports minister, Alieu Kebba Jammeh, who received the gesture on behalf of the National Organising Committee, hailed Minister Gye and his family for the donation. "There will be a very stiff competition in this year's NAYCONF for the delegates to lay hand on the trophy," he said.

Governor Ganyie Touray expressed delight at the presence of many cabinet ministers at the occasion, thus describing the 10th edition as "unique" compared to the previously held ones. Present at the dinner that was held at the island town of Janjangbureh included some cabinet ministers, key figures in youth development, as well as some foreign resident diplomats.
