Ahead of the 2012/2013 National County Sports Meet to kick-off in Maryland County, Western Cluster Limited (WCL) has donated several sets of football, basketball, volleyball and kickball jerseys to teams of Bomi and Grand Cape Mount counties.
Bomi and Grand Cape Mount Counties host the company's three iron ore concessions - Bea, Bomi and Mano Mountains- in Western Liberia.
A Spokesman of the company stated that the contribution of the jerseys is part of the company's fulfillment of its Corporate Social Responsibility to those counties within its concession areas during the prestigious National County Sports Meet.
Receiving the jerseys on behalf of Bomi County, Superintendent Samuel Brown commended Western Cluster Limited for the contribution.
Superintendent Brown said, "Receiving this donation from you does not surprise us. As we always say, Western Cluster Limited has been a source of support for Bomi County since the company started its operations in the county more than a year ago. Whenever we are in need, the company comes to our aid.
This is the kind of partnership that we envisage between communities and concessionaires", he said.
For his part, the County Inspector of Grand Cape Mount County, Mr. Eric Varney Pinney lauded WCL for the assistance rendered to the county's teams that will be participating in this year's County Meet.
"Grand Cape Mount County is extremely gratified by the donation of WCL and this is one of the things we expect from companies operating within our county", the Mr. Pinney said.
Launched in 1956, the National County Sports Meet is an annual sporting event organized by the Government of Liberia to bring together all counties to compete in different sporting disciplines such as: football, basketball, volleyball among others. The tournament is also used as a platform to forge national unity through sports.
