South Africa: Inkatha Freedom Party Outraged By Medical Malpractice At George Masebe Hospital

press release

The IFP is shocked at the recent reports of malpractice at George Masebe Hospital that may have led to the deaths of four infants.

IFP spokesperson on Health, Ms Hilda Msweli, MP said "The events and circumstances surrounding the untimely deaths of these infants are indicative of a health system that has failed. When our care-givers no longer care, when children are left to die from treatable illnesses, tragedies such as this one will unfold. This is untenable and must be rooted out at the source. Any doctor who is found to have been negligent in these incidents must be removed from practice immediately and replaced. The hospital management must be held accountable and disciplinary proceedings instituted immediately and those found responsible fired immediately."

"The IFP calls upon the MEC for Health, Dr Norman Mabasa to ensure that his investigation is thorough and that it determines the causes of these incidences, then take immediate corrective actions to ensure that tragedies like this do not occur again. The public depend on our medical care system and the current system is failing them" said Msweli.
