Kenya: Tea Farmers to Elect Directors

Small-scale tea affiliated to Kenya Tea Development Agency go the polls tomorrow today to elect directors for their factory companies.

The estimated 190,000 tea growers who are shareholders will elect two directors of each of the 54 tea factory companies managed by KTDA.

260 candidates vying for the 108 positions and 32 of them are unopposed meaning they will only be confirmed as directors.

The small holder tea farmers go to the polls at a time when their returns from last year's earnings increased to Sh61.4 Billion, a 12.5 per cent rise from the previous financial year.

The total payout to farmers increased to Sh45.3 billion, which is the highest ever in the long history of income from tea.
