The Ethiopian Standard Agency (ESA) announced that it has approved 794 new and revised standards during the 7th regular meeting held on December 24, 2005.
Out of the total number of standards, 13 are approved to enforce the canal pump standards while the rest are intended to regulate textile and construction sectors.
ESA replaced the former Quality and Standard Authority of Ethiopia (QSAE) and was recognised as the Ethiopian National Standards Body (NSB) by the Ethiopian Government recently.
The Ethiopian Standard Body role is performed by ESA on behalf of the Ethiopian government and principally involves the representation of Ethiopiain Regional and international standards. The Agency closely cooperates with the different national standard bodies in formulation, adoption, and harmonisation of standards.
