Kenya: Banana Donor Saves Drug Addicts

A well-wisher from Banana village has offered to help the youth out of their drug woes.

Patrick Wainaina Kiarie and family formed Bakyard entertainment project early last year to help the youth from his village out of alcoholism and drugs. The village has suffered a series of deaths from the menace.

"I was born in Banana village but relocated to the United Kingdom," said Wainaina. "It was shocking for me to see on the news that youth were dying from alcoholism and drugs. That is why I formed Bakyard entertainment."

Banana village came to the limelight in June 2011 when 14 youth died after consuming the killer brew popularly known as Yokozuna. Wainaina was speaking yesterday at Karuri Stadium in Banana where he had sponsored a soccer tournament and talent show. "We are not funded by anybody and the programme is not political," said Wainaina.
