Kenya: Schools Reopen in Malindi

Hundreds of pupils yesterday turned up in public and private schools in Malindi after the long holidays. Some walked while others were driven to their schools to begin the first term of the year.

Most, however did not begin classes immediately as they embarked on a thorough cleaning of the compounds which had been left unattended.

At Upweoni Primary School, about 90 per cent of the pupils had reported by 6.30am. Karima Primary School which has had many cases of early pregnancies and early marriages in previous years recorded more than 75 per cent turnout.
