Africa: James Cochrane to Receive Queen's New Year Honour

press release

James Cochrane, a former member of the MMV Board of Directors, is on the Queen's New Year Honours list. James was Chairman of the British Red Cross and will receive a CBE from HRH Queen Elizabeth II for his services to health.

MMV congratulates James on receiving this well-deserved accolade for his work in the voluntary sector. He has been a valued and active member of the MMV Board for two terms since 2006, and has only recently stepped down. MMV has benefited greatly from his advice and insight over the years and we hope to continue to do so.

James spent his professional career in the pharmaceutical industry. After almost 20 years at Bristol Myers Squibb, he became a director then member of the main Board of Europe Wellcome PLC. He moved on to be member of the Board of Glaxo Wellcome PLC from 1995 to 2001, and then was Chairman of the South West London Strategic Health Authority from 2001-2006.

James entered the voluntary sector when he joined the British Red Cross as Chairman in 2007. He stepped down in December 2012 after serving two terms. He was also a board member of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

James is currently a trustee of the youth development charity Raleigh International.
