Tanzania: Mafunzo Clinch Mapinduzi Netball Title

Zanzibar — MAFUNZO netball team yesterday managed to clinch the Mapinduzi Cup 2013 trophy after thrashing Polisi Morogoro 41-22 in a slow pace encounter at the Gymkhana club here.

The final witnessed by the guest of honour, the Deputy Minister for Finance, Saada Salum Mkuya, was a good treat to the partisan fans that show up to watch the game.

Mafunzo showed intent to win from the throw off as they controlled the game from all angles with their competitors dancing to their tunes. This year's Mapinduzi Cup other competing teams included JKU, KVZ, Sogea and Ikulu.

The chief guest counselled the Isles netball body, CHANEZA and the Sports Council (ZNSC) to ensure that they start early preparations next year to allow more teams to take part. She said by registering more teams it will bring about competitiveness and add much colour to the tournament.

Meanwhile, Darajani throw off on a good start the Mapinduzi Volleyball tournament after beating Zenji Fm by 3-1 sets. The opening game of the volleyball tournament saw a competitive first set but the winners were smart in spiking and serving as they finished the set by 25-17, 25-8 and 25-18. Other teams in the volleyball tournament are Chuoni and Nyuki.
