THE Patriotic Front (PF) in Kabwata Constituency has revealed that embattled area Member of Parliament (MP) Given Lubinda has continued holding dark-corner meetings in readiness for a by-election.
Constituency chairperson David Silubanji demanded that Mr Lubinda should resign immediately as disciplinary hearing at the weekend found him guilty of treachery.
"The PF in Kabwata is aware that Mr Lubinda has continued to campaign and hold dark corner meetings in readiness for a by-election because he fully knows the consequences of his treachery," Mr Silubanji said.
He said in a statement in Lusaka that constituency officials had been vindicated over earlier calls for Mr Lubinda to leave the party.
Mr Lubinda, who is Foreign Affairs Minister, has been charged for allegedly collaborating with the opposition MMD and the United Party for National Development (UPND).
"Based on information that Mr Lubinda has been found guilty of treachery, the constituency committee is demanding that he resigns with immediate effect," Mr Silubanji said.
He said Mr Lubinda's position as area MP was no longer tenable.
PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba has stated that the ruling party would not tolerate members that compromised their loyalty.
