Kenya: Boda Boda Operators Ask for New Number Plates

KENYA National Association for Motorcycle Owners and Riders have appealed to the Kenya Revenue Authority to register new motorcycles with the legally recognised numbers plates.

Chairman Samson Nundu said they raised the issue with KRA who agreed to reverse the registration to reflect the motorcycles instead of vehicles but have not done so.

"We still have the problem with the registration. The incoming motorcycles are still being registered with the old number plates which are similar to the big vehicles like PSVs, trucks and lorries," he said in Nakuru yesterday.

Nundu said boda boda operators find themselves on the wrong side of the law as they are identified to be flouting the traffic law with wrong number plates.

"The traffic police arrest us though we try to explain to them where the confusion emanates from," he added.
