Nigeria: Tukur, PDP Chairman, Admits Rifts Within

National Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has admitted that there are rifts within the party but efforts are being made to rectify the situation and bring antagonistic interests together in order to move the party forward.

Tukur's admission of cracks existing within the ranks of the ruling party was made Wednesday after the National Working Committee (NWC) met inside the Presidential Villa with President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Muhammad Namadi Sambo, Senate President David Mark and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

The meeting, which was a departure from the usual nocturnal ones that has been held for about half a dozen times from the last quarter of, last year till date, lasted for two hours.
