Libya: Kufra Tribal Clash Kills Three

Unknown gunmen opened fire on Tuesday (January 8th) on the university campus in Kufra, which is part of Benghazi University, LANA reported. Security services intervened to repel the attack and at least two of the attackers were killed. One student was reportedly injured, while trying to escape the fighting.

According to the Libya Herald, the clashes started inside the campus between Toubou and Zwai students and later spread to the town. The paper also quoted a member of the town as saying that three Toubou died.

The head of the local council, the local military commander and community leaders are reportedly trying to sooth the situation, which remains tense.

Months of tribal clashes in the town last year claimed some 150 lives, before a peace deal was brokered at the end of July.
