Zambia: Boy (8) Survives Crocodile Attack

An 8-year-old boy in Kitwe is nursing serious wounds in hospital after he was attacked by a crocodile.

A GRADE Four pupil in Kitwe was at the weekend attacked by a crocodile while fishing on the banks of the Kafue River.

The boy aged eight, was fishing with his friends on the banks of the river in Bulangililo Township when the crocodile dragged him into the water.

He wrestled with the crocodile and managed to swim to safety but in the process the reptile mauled his ankle.

Kitwe Central Hospital (KCH) public relations manager Grey Chishimba said the boy was currently admitted to hospital nursing serious wounds.

"Yes I can confirm that we have an eight-year-old boy that was attacked by a crocodile in Bulangilio Township when he was fishing with his friends and is admitted to Kafue ward," he said.

The boy of Kawama Basic School has been identified as Isaac Kaonga.

Mr Chishimba said the boy was recovering from the wounds and had since been put on antibiotics.

The wound is being cleaned with an antiseptic to prevent it from bacterial infection.
