Kenya: Teso Cop Kills Headteacher

A police officer in Teso was yesterday arrested following the killing of a Head- teacher who was shot outside a shop at Moding trading Centre.

A vegetable seller said John Wefunya, the principal of Joy Chapman Academy, had just bought some items from her before he went into the shop.

"Moments later an officer with a rain coat emerged, ordered everybody to lie down," she said.The shop owner John Emomuge said the uniformed officer aimed the trigger at him but he ducked and in the confusion, the teacher was shot on the head.

Demonstrations rocked the centre prompting Teso OCPD, Elphas Korir and his security team to fire in the air so as to rescue their colleague from the angry mob.

Korir apologised over the killing and promised to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.Wefunya died while being attended to at Moding health centre.
