A Nairobi businessman has asked cooperates to help the less fortunate children in rural areas.Edmand George Mungai said many companies have relented on their corporate social responsibility.

The MD of Edn George Diesel Company said firms whose CRS is active focus on helping urban centres and slums."Many companies have forgotten CSR. We have very many children and old people who are in dire need of basic necessities and we should divert our attention from urban to rural areas," Mungai said.

Mungai was speaking at Spirit of Mercy Children home at Kiamumbi in Kiambu when the company celebrated its 10 years of its CSR and 15 years anniversary in business. The firm donated food and Sh100, 000 to the 45 children.

Mungai said organisations can help the government to eradicate poverty. He said companies should find a way of helping orphans and those from vulnerable families have a bright future.

He said giving cannot make anyone poor and urged all Kenyans to help the less fortunate."We should not always blame the government for not setting aside funds to help the less fortunate. Businesspeople have a responsibility to fight poverty," Mungai said.

"You can't be poor because of giving and you cannot be rich because of being selfish," he said.Spirit of Mercy home Founder Salome Wanjiku said they are finding it hard to raise fees for children who are joining secondary school.
