On January 13, 2013, 11 am, the Egyptian Constitutional Front holds an open discussion workshop entitled "Fair Election Safeguards" at the headquarters of the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR). The workshop will be attended by professors of law, legal experts, public figures, media specialists, representatives of political parties, NGOs, political and human rights' activists. The attendees will include Anwar Al Sadat, head of Reform and Development party, Amr Hamzawy, professor of political science, Cairo University, Mostafa Al Naggar, former parliamentary member, Abdel Ghaffar Shokr, Popular Socialistic Coalition Party, Ahmed Bahaa Al Din Shaba, founder of the Egyptian Socialistic Party, Hamdi Al Fakharani, Democratic Front Party, Hussein Abdel Raziq, former secretary general of Al Tagamoa Political Party, Farid Zahran, head of the Egyptian Democratic Social Party, Safwat Al Alim, media expert and Hafez Abu Seada, the general coordinator of the Egyptian Constitutional Front and the head of EOHR.
The workshop will discuss guarantees of fairness and transparency of the forthcoming parliamentary elections that will run within three months. The attendees will discuss independence of the high election commission, the nature of local and international electoral observers' mission, mechanisms of cooperation between the election commission and observing NGOs and the mission of media specialists.
Mr. Hafez Abu Seada, the head of EOHR, stressed on the importance of the parliamentary elections. The parliament will work on monitoring the governmental performance and issuing new legislations in addition to handling the results of the national dialogue according to the international standards of human rights, he added. He also stated that electoral observation creates a state of confidence amongst the voters regarding transparency, fairness and effectiveness of the electoral process.
