The Simon Kuseyo trophy is one given in honour of the late Kenyan polo great also known as the African Argentine. Kuseyo was brought up in Gilgil and went on to conquer the polo world as the highest ranked polo player in Kenya and the top indigenous African polo player in the world.
The winner of the 2012 trophy is Raphael Nzomo the MD of Africa Aviation Services and a board member of the board of Kenya's Civil Aviation Authority. Nzomo was also awarded a Moran of The Burning Spear by President Kibaki for his sporting and business achievements.
"Simon Kuseyo was a very special person in many ways and winning this trophy is a great honour. The biggest lesson I learned from this great man is the art of patience. It's made me a better polo player and it has made me a better man" said Nzomo when he received the trophy at the Manyatta Polo club.
